Lectures of the School of Advanced Training on the Pediatric Microbiota – with the unconditional contribution of Bromatech
The development and maturation of the neonatal gut microbiota constitute a dynamic process characterized by important interactions between the microorganisms that characterize our microbiota and the host organism.
This process is influenced by various perinatal conditions, such as mode of delivery, type of feeding, and medication use. The mother’s diet, age and metabolic status, family genetics, lifestyle and environment also have a significant impact on the neonatal and infant microbiota. Recently published scientific evidence identifies a critical window of vulnerability (the first 1,000 days of a child’s life) in which these factors can alter the physiological developmental
trajectory of the microbiota with short- and long-term repercussions on its health.
The School of Advanced Training on the Pediatric Microbiota aimed to promote and develop, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the latest knowledge related to the role of the human microbiota in neonatal and pediatric settings, providing a modern-day view of gut ecology. The course modules were designed to provide detailed scientific training on the foundational mechanisms in contributing to the maintenance of maternal and child health and well- being from the earliest stages of life.
